ON THE CONNECTION OF THE FLUENCE OF HIGH-ENERGY MAGNETO-SPHERIC ELECTRONS WITH PARAMETERS OF THE INTERPLANETARY MEDIUM
Abstract
The events of high-energy magnetospheric electrons fluence enhancements at geostationary orbits in 1987-2007 are considered. The daily fluence of electrons was selected as the main characteristic of the behavior of electrons with energy> 2 MeV measured by GOES satellites at geostationary orbit, since it is closely related to malfunctions of satellite electronics. It is shown that the increases of high-energy magnetospheric electrons begin during major interplanetary and magnetospheric disturbances, but the beginning of the electron increases lags behind them for 1–3 days. The longest event on December 10-31, 2006, lasted 22 days, during which electron fluence exceeded the highly dangerous level, the largest total fluence was during the event from July 28 to August 5, 2004, and was equal to 2.6 1010 electrons / (cm2 sr). The fluence of high-energy magnetospheric electrons is closely associated with the solar wind’s speed, especially with its value measured 2 days earlier and with the Арindex of geomagnetic activity observed 2–3 days earlier. The delay of the electronic fluence by 2-3 days relative to the interplanetary and geomagnetic indices creates the possibility of fairly reliable forecasts not only for the next day, but also for several days ahead.
